Theatre seats

The main floor of the auditorium has two designated wheelchair locations within the auditorium. Wheelchair spaces and companion seats for support persons are indicated in the “Select your own seat” portion of the ticket-purchase path via our website.

Described sound

For titles listed with described sound (DS), we offer assistive devices to transmit a specifically narrated audio track where patrons can hear audio descriptions of the image as well as the film’s audio.

Lightbox staff are trained and familiar with the available assistive devices. Equipment requests are facilitated at the box office. Please note that the equipment is subject to availability. Headphones are available, but customers are encouraged to bring their own headphones if they have them and if they are required.

Service animals

Service animals are allowed on the premises.

Hearing assistance

To search for films we’re screening with closed-captioning (CC) and descriptive sound (DS), please go to tiff.net/calendar and open the drop-down menu labelled “Accessibility,” where you can select the options that suit your needs.

Neurodivergent accessibility

TIFF hosts “relaxed screenings,” which welcome members of the public with specific sensory or communication needs. At these screenings:

  • the lights are on and the volume is lowered;
  • there may be noise and movement in the auditorium;
  • seating will be General Admission, and therefore you may choose your own seat(s) upon arrival;
  • you are welcome to leave and re-enter the auditorium as you wish.

Gender inclusivity

You can find all-gender washrooms in the theatre lobby and on each cinema floor. Visitors are encouraged to use the bathroom they are most comfortable with. Harassment of any kind, including harassment based on gender, is in violation of our Code of Conduct.

Code of Conduct

You can find the TIFF Code of Conduct here.

Training for staff

Accessibility is a key tenet of hospitality at TIFF.

Training includes:

  • an overview of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, and the requirements of the customer service standard;
  • how to communicate with and support people with physical and mental disabilities;
  • how to communicate with and support people with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of a service animal or a support person; and
  • how to use equipment or devices available on site that may help with providing goods or services to people with disabilities.
