Frequently Asked Questions

What is TIFF’s Code of Conduct?

Our staff and Volunteers are here to ensure the best possible Festival experience for all. We will not tolerate mistreatment of any kind towards our staff and Volunteers and will take measures accordingly. TIFF reserves the right to refuse admission to and/or expel from the premises, without refund, any persons whose presence or conduct is deemed objectionable.

What are the payment options for passes?

For a speedier process, we recommend paying by credit card or debit card. In some cases, you will need to authorize the transaction with your bank before sending your payment. If you have other questions regarding payment please contact registration@tiff.net. TIFF prefers Visa.

Help! I’ve lost my pass!

Lost or stolen passes should be reported to the Registration Desk at the Industry Centre. A $20 replacement fee will apply (credit card only).

What is the accreditation process?

Once you have purchased a pass, we review the details provided on your form. If you qualify for the pass that you have selected, we will process your payment and send you a confirmation letter. If not, we will recommend a different pass type that is more suited for your role in the industry or suggest purchasing public tickets. Be sure to complete your registration form with as many details as possible. If we require more information, we will contact you.

Which type of pass should I purchase?

All of our pass options offer the same access to the Industry Conference, meeting spaces, Screening Library, and delegate resources, with the exception of our one-day Doc Conference Pass. The main difference between our pass options is screening access (see below). Our Conference Pass is ideal for new and emerging film professionals, while our Industry Pass is the most popular option, as it provides fluid access to a wide range of professional services and screenings. Premium and Buyer Passes are designed for those working in distribution and acquisitions only. Film Rep Passes are exclusively for sales agents and producers with films in Official Selection.

Can passes be shared among colleagues?

Each delegate attending the Festival must be accredited to access screening, location, and conference benefits. Passes are non-transferrable.

I’ve registered but have not received a confirmation email.

Our accreditation process takes up to three days. If you do not receive a confirmation after that time, email registration@tiff.net or call 1-416-934-5834. Ensure that our email address is added to your contacts so important messages aren't blocked by spam filters.

I have a film in Official Selection. Do I still have to pay for my pass?

Films in Official Selection are eligible for one complimentary Film Rep Pass for the producer and one complimentary Film Rep Pass for the sales agent. These passes are not transferable, and there is a maximum of three passes per sales agency. If you are part of the crew please inquire at registration@tiff.net and if you are part of the cast please inquire at filmoffice@tiff.net.

I am unable to attend. Can I transfer my pass to a colleague or receive a refund?

All passes are non-refundable, as stated at point of purchase. A pass may be transferred to another person within the same company at the same professional level no later than August 10, 2018.

Does TIFF have a market? Can I set up a stand/be an exhibitor?

TIFF has an unofficial market with a unique business model. We do not offer traditional exhibitor opportunities; rather, national agencies from countries around the world rent stands in our Industry Centre. In 2017, there were 38 countries represented.

Where can I find a list of industry professionals attending TIFF?

The Delegate List outlines all industry professionals attending the Festival. This is a useful resource for identifying people you’d like to meet. The Delegate List becomes available in early July, along with details on how to set up your online resources login.

Will my pass get me into parties?

Your pass will not give you access to third-party events. You will have access to our Industry Happy Hours, which take place at the end of each day of our Conference. Remember to check your inbox and mailbox for invitations to third-party events.

I’m a film student/scholar. Can I access special rates?

Yes. TIFF values and encourages an academic presence at our Festival. Contact us at registration@tiff.net to inquire about rates and regulations.

I have accessibility needs. How can you help?

We are happy to accommodate pass holders with accessibility needs. If you require assistance please start by contacting registration@tiff.net. Members of the public should contact Customer Relations at customerrelations@tiff.net.

Do you offer special hotel rates?

Yes. Contact hotels@tiff.net for rates and assistance.

Please note: You will need your pass to gain access to all screenings and Conference events.

Public Screenings

A ticket, together with your pass, is always required to attend public screenings.

Depending on your pass type, you will have different opportunities to access public tickets. All pass types include same-day ticketing and Rush line access to public screenings. Only Film Rep, Premium, and Buyer Passes include advance tickets to public screenings, which can be selected online or at the Industry Box Office. If your pass type includes advance tickets, you will receive detailed instructions via email closer to Festival.

Press & Industry (P&I) Screenings

Arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of the screening. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. When a cinema is full, a Rush line will begin in the event that seats become available.

Priority Screenings

Some P&I screenings have a Priority distinction. This is to ensure that buyers and priority press are able to view the film before its first public screening. Film Rep and Buyer Pass holders have access to these screenings. Priority is granted up to 15 minutes prior to the start time.

Industry and Premium Pass holders have secondary access to these screenings and will be let in after the Priority line. All Priority P&I screenings have at least one regular P&I screening.

Rush Access

The Rush line refers to a secondary lineup for a particular screening or Conference event. Any unoccupied seats are offered to individuals in the Rush line on a first-come, first-served basis. Pass holders with Rush access will be let in to an event between 5 and 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time, subject to seating availability.

Conference Access

To gain access to the Conference, pass holders are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the session. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Industry Venue Access

All passes, with the exception of the Doc Conference Pass, have access to the Industry Centre, Business Centre, and Screening Library at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, as well as the Industry Lounge at the Glenn Gould Studio. Only Buyer Pass holders have access to the Buyers’ Lounge, at Scotiabank Theatre.
