Art-designed to the hilt, the first feature by the late Tony Scott (Top Gun) features the high-powered star trio of Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie and Susan Sarandon as the three points of a vampiric love triangle. The divine Deneuve plays Miriam, a centuries-old bloodsucker currently dwelling in a luxe NYC townhouse with her longtime lover John (Bowie), whose 200 years on Earth are finally beginning to catch up to him. Looking to halt his body's rapid decay, John consults gerontologist Sarah Roberts (Sarandon), who soon becomes drawn into the couple's nocturnal world. Hitting the sweet spot between vampire movie and high-end perfume commercial, The Hunger became instantly notorious for the erotic sex scene between Deneuve and Sarandon, which has ensured the film's (or at least the scene's) enduring, YouTubed popularity.
