View The Green Fog during the Special Event: The Green Fog + Vertigo with Guy Maddin event.

With Vertigo reigning as Sight & Sound's best film of all time, the moment is right for this dazzling remix of Hitchcock's masterpiece. Guy Maddin reteams with his Forbidden Room collaborators, Galen Johnson and Evan Johnson, to deliver "an exuberant, celebratory, often marvelously funny piece of work" (Film Comment) that is, at the same time, "a marvel of film scholarship" (The New York Times). Noah Cowan, former Artistic Director of TIFF Bell Lightbox, commissioned The Green Fog as the closing night event for last spring's 60th San Francisco International Film Festival. Its title inspired by that eerie Vertigo scene where Kim Novak emerges into green neon light, the Maddin-Johnson melange retells Hitchcock's story, replacing his images with a prodigious assemblage of images plucked from films and television shows filmed in San Francisco. The effect is both illuminating and intoxicating. For this first-ever screening in Toronto, Guy Maddin will introduce both The Green Fog and a special screening of Vertigo.
