TIFF Next Wave is the heartbeat of year-round programming at TIFF Bell Lightbox for young audiences. Every year, we select 12 youth-friendly films that screen at the Festival in September and the TIFF Next Wave Film Festival in February. The programme also includes our young filmmakers’ competition, Jump Cuts, and the TIFF Next Wave Film Club, a monthly series that brings young film lovers together to discuss all things film.
The TIFF Next Wave Film Festival features FREE movies (including your old faves and new releases from around the world), amazing guests and Q&A sessions, industry workshops and panels, the 24-Hour Film Challenge (in case you hate sleeping), the always epic kickoff at Battle of the Scores, and free WiFi throughout the building for those long hangs.
Next Wave happens February 16 to 18, 2018 — we’ll see you there!
High-energy, high-profile and unique, Battle of the Scores challenges bands to create and perform (live!) original scores for an original short film. The competition takes place in-cinema and a winner is determined by audience votes and a panel of esteemed judges from the Toronto music and film community. Are you in a band? Submissions are now open to participate in the 2018 event! Please note: band members must be between the ages of 14-25 (with at least one member in high school). If you have any questions, please email us at email@example.com.
A new initiative that looks to extend the Next Wave connection year-round. This club meets monthly and brings industry guests, emerging filmmakers and film-lovers together for dialogue, engagement and film screenings at TIFF. For free.
