Next Wave

TIFF Next Wave is the heartbeat of year-round programming for young audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival located in downtown Toronto. It includes the selection of 10 youth friendly films that screen at the Festival in September, the TIFF Next Wave festival in February, our young film-makers competition, Jump Cuts, and the TIFF Next Wave film club, a monthly series that brings young film-lovers to discuss all things film.

The TIFF Next Wave festival features FREE movies (including your old faves and new releases from around the world), amazing guests and Q&A sessions, industry workshops and panels, the 24-Hour Film Challenge (in case you hate sleeping), the ever-epic kick off at Battle of the Scores, and more!

Next Wave Year-round

2017/2018 TIFF Next Wave Committee

The TIFF Next Wave Committee is a group of twelve students aged 15 to 18 who are in charge of planning some major teen-oriented events at TIFF Bell Lightbox (with a little help from TIFF staff). We are currently recruiting for the 2017/2018 Committee! Interested? Download the application and submit to by May 26, 2017, at 5PM EST. Deadline extended until Monday May 29th!

Film Club

A new initiative that looks to extend the Next Wave connection year-round. This club meets monthly and brings industry guests, emerging filmmakers and film-lovers together for dialogue, engagement and film screenings at TIFF. For free.

Jump Cuts

Jump Cuts presents short films created for young people, by young people. On May 13, 2017, this high profile showcase gives selected Ontario filmmakers in grades 9–12 the exciting opportunity to see their short films on the big screen at TIFF Bell Lightbox!
