In 1988, Ivan Giroud began working at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) in the direction of International Relations, in the organization of Cuban and Latin American film samples for Europe and North America, and at the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema of which he is a member. As part of its Institute’s committee, he programmed retrospectives dedicated to Renoir, Buñuel, Rossellini, Bresson, Rohmer, Pasolini, Herzog, Wenders, Schlondorf, Chabrol, Truffaut, Ivens, Almodóvar, Scola, Bellocchio, Wong Kar-Wai, Monicelli and Nikita Mijalkov, among others. In 1994, he assumed the direction of the festival until 2010, and in 2013 he was appointed president of the contest, a function that he carried out until July 2022.

Parallel to his work at the Festival, Giroud is also director of audiovisual programming at the Buñuel Institute and founding director of the Sala Berlanga of the SGAE Foundation (2008–2013); visiting professor of the Master in Film Industry Management at UC3M, Madrid; international adviser for Latin America at the San Francisco International Film Festival; honorary member of the Providence Festival of New Latin American Cinema; curator for the Havana Film Festival (New York), the first and largest retrospective of Cuban cinema held in the United States on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of ICAIC; and curator for the Kennedy Center of part of the Festival of the Arts dedicated to Cuba.

He has also collaborated with the Ibermedia program and with the Cuban Film Promotion Fund as an evaluator of projects in the production category for the 2019 and 2022 editions.

He has been distinguished with the José Manuel Rodríguez Honorary Seal of the University of Havana and the Distinction for National Culture, conferred by the Cuban Ministry of Culture in 2020. In 2021 he was invested with the insignia of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, by the Minister of Culture of France.

He has been a juror at international festivals including Cannes, Venice, San Sebastian, Seminci de Valladolid, It's All True, Morelia, Providence, San Fransisco, and the Havana Film Festival.

He is a member of the international jury of the Platino Awards, EGEDA, since its first edition in 2014.

He currently resides in Spain.
