TIFF: The Market unveils key details ahead of first edition

TIFF: The Market secures participation from major agencies CAA, UTA, and WME

Metro Toronto Convention Centre to serve as primary headquarters with 650 market screening slots and expanded industry programming

TORONTO – Ahead of the inaugural TIFF: The Market launch in 2026, new information about the global event has been shared today by TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey and the recently appointed Head of Market Charles Tremblay. TIFF: The Market, designed to drive the global film, television, and innovation industries forward, will take place September 10–16, 2026 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The Market will provide 650 market screening slots and feature an expanded speaker summit. Major agencies including CAA, UTA, and WME are confirmed to participate in TIFF: The Market with completed and packaged projects.

“The alignment of TIFF: The Market with our annual Festival provides a unique opportunity for buyers and distributors,” said Bailey. “As the largest public film festival in the world, there is no better place than TIFF to get a pulse on what is resonating with audiences.”

“We are seeing strong buy-in and support for the market from key stakeholders including major film agencies, alongside sales companies, international buyers, national promotional bodies, and prospective partners across the industry,” adds Tremblay. “This level of engagement underscores the value and timeliness of establishing a major Market and Festival in September to help drive the global screen industry forward.”

“Having a market coincide with a festival is an ideal scenario and TIFF allows for just that. In addition to attracting key buyers who are using the festival to platform their fall releases, they are also acquiring films. With the formal launch of the market, the timing is essential to supporting a healthy independent film ecosystem in that we can sell packages that are able to go into production in the first quarter of the year and help ease the pressure buyers may feel in the space between Cannes and Berlin,” said Roeg Sutherland, Co-Head of CAA Media Finance.

Within TIFF’s existing walkable footprint, the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) will be the primary business hub with 120 exhibitor spaces, multiple market programming stages, business lounges, an innovation zone, and market screenings at the venue’s new cinemas. In addition to the MTCC, sales suites will be available at nearby hotels, including the InterContinental Toronto Centre, and The Ritz-Carlton.

More than 250 new international buyers are being invited to attend TIFF: The Market, in addition to the 800 buyers who attend TIFF annually. The Market is set to provide 650 market screening slots at premium screens including TIFF Lightbox and Cineplex’s Scotiabank Theatre Toronto. Screenings will begin two days before the Festival and the Market at TIFF Lightbox, offering sellers a head start on getting projects in front of buyers. TIFF: The Market will provide sales companies with the unique opportunity to invite a curated, public test audience to their screenings, bridging the Market and Festival experience.

TIFF: The Market programming will expand its support of producers, directors, writers, and IP owners across sectors. Offerings will support creator, project, and sector development, including a seven-day speakers summit featuring talks and panels with industry visionaries; a project market for projects in development supporting co-production and; an IP showcase welcoming publishers and diverse IP owners to present their work to producers, financiers, and studios; and a suite of talent development labs supporting directors, screenwriters, and series creators. More details on programming will be released soon, with submissions opening in February.

TIFF: The Market will also fuel TIFF’s move into new forms of storytelling by launching an innovation hub platforming eight new projects across the growing XR, AI, and immersive sectors. Exhibitors are welcome at the Metro Convention Centre to showcase new creative tools, technologies, and opportunities for creators and decision makers.

TIFF: The Market, funded by the Government of Canada with a landmark $23M CAD investment and supported by Telefilm Canada, will expand TIFF’s scope of offerings and reinforce its role as a global entertainment industry leader in screen-based storytelling while fostering sustainable growth for the industry worldwide. Aligned with the Festival, TIFF: The Market will foster the buying and selling of screen-based projects, intellectual property, plus immersive and innovative content across all platforms, elevating Canadian and international talent while driving global distribution and sales.

Exhibitor stands are now on sale. Submissions for individual talent development labs are open through February 2026. Pass registration will open in March 2026. For more information, visit tiff.net/themarket.
