Danny Glover brought his Lethal Weapon star power to bear in order to help raise a large chunk of the $1.4 million budget for this ambitious indie production by writer-director Charles Burnett, who had established himself as one of the key figures of the Black filmmaking movement known as the "L.A. Rebellion" for his stunning debut feature Killer of Sheep. In this exquisitely poised and wryly amusing drama, Glover is superb as Harry Mention, a Mephistophelian stranger from the South who insinuates himself into the household of a middle-class family in South Central L.A., and proceeds to turn their lives inside out.
