An unlikely prospector in the Klondike, the Little Tramp gets mixed up with an escaped fugitive (Tom Murray), an amnesiac prospector (Mack Swain) and a beautiful dance-hall girl (Georgia Hale) as he tries to make his fortune. Chaplin's first masterpiece features at least three of the most famous (and hilarious) sequences in film history — the dance of the dinner rolls, a mouth-watering meal of boiled boots, and the Tramp being mistaken for a giant chicken by his hunger-crazed cabin-mate — and completes the Tramp's transformation from the mischief-maker of the short films into a true romantic soul, whose poetic imagination can re-enchant a brutal reality.
