Denys Arcand's debut feature is a searing documentary about the Quebec textile industry in the late 1960s, exposing the harsh conditions and low pay facing the workers and the domination of Anglo-American capital in Quebec. Banned from screening upon its completion due to its politically incendiary content, the film was finally allowed to premiere in its full-length version in 1979.
