Running from September 10–13, 2026
Festival Street is an open-air celebration where the magic of the Toronto International Film Festival spills straight out of the theatres and onto King Street. For four unforgettable days, Sept. 10–13, King Street West between Peter and University transforms into a buzzing, welcoming, everyone’s-invited Festival playground. It is the public epicentre of TIFF, where audiences celebrate the movies — and we celebrate our audiences.
Festival Street includes red carpets, art installations, partner activations, an art market, live music stages, fan zones, free outdoor screenings, food market, games, and activities for the whole family. There is no better way to celebrate “the People’s Festival” than with a free and accessible street party dedicated to the Festival-goers in Toronto.

SLOW | A participatory multi-screen installation, exploring movement, memory, and time.
Created by Naomi Jaye, produced by Celeste Ovita Cole
SLOW is inspired by the artist's observation of her father's changing movements following his diagnosis with Parkinson disease. Drawn to the quiet choreography of bradykinesia — its tremors, hesitations, and slowed rhythms — she reimagines the early cinematic device of the zoetrope as a large, human-powered cylinder. Visitors must spin together to animate a life-size figure whose movements become increasingly fluid through their collective effort.
A dance class/artist talk by Dancing with Parkinson’s and Naomi Jaye will take place in front of the installation on Friday, September 11 at 1pm.

The Disco Speakers
Created by MattCreative (Matt Jones)
The Disco Speakers are a fusion of the most memorable elements of the dance floor: disco balls, speakers, and LED lighting. By day, a layer of disco tiles creates a striking visual spectacle, reflecting sunlight in every direction and gently shimmering with the breeze. By night, the installation transforms as integrated LEDs bring the speakers to life with dynamic, audio-reactive visualizations. All wrapped together in a larger-than-life set of speakers.

Tree of Cinema
by Alina Tacmelova and Yury Goncharov
The Tree of Cinema, created for TIFF ’26, is a monumental public installation that explores cinema as a living archive of collective memory. Its steel trunk represents the structural and technological foundations of filmmaking. Rising above it, a canopy of flowing film strips weaves together iconic moments from cinematic history with photographs of audiences watching, gathering, laughing, and reflecting. Conceived by multidisciplinary artists Alina Tacmelova and Yury Goncharov, the installation reflects their shared interest in participation, memory, and the ways public experience shapes cultural meaning. The Tree of Cinema suggests that audiences are not simply spectators, but an essential part of cinema's living legacy.
