Academy Award-nominated writer-director Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Ex Machina) joins us for an extended onstage conversation following an advance screening of Annihilation, his highly anticipated film based on the acclaimed Southern Reach Trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer. Annihilation follows an expedition of female soldiers and scientists into Area X as they track a sinister and mysterious phenomenon that expands across the American coastline, revealing a beautiful, but dangerous world of mutated landscapes and creatures that threatens both their lives and their sanity.

Alex Garland is the director and writer of Ex Machina(15), which won Best Achievement in Visual Effects at the Academy Awards. Garland himself was nominated for an Oscar for Best Writing in Original Screenplay, a BAFTA Alexander Korda Award for Best Film, and BAFTA's Outstanding Debut by a British Writer. His additional writing credits include 28 Days Later(03), Never Let Me Go(10), and Dredd(12), all of which he also produced, as well as Sunshine(07). Garland is the author of the novels The Beach(96) and The Tesseract(99), both of which have been adapted into films. Annihilation(18) is his latest film.
