    Jamaica-born, Toronto-raised filmmaker Clement Virgo introduces his groundbreaking debut that signalled an important departure from the traditional filmic depictions of Black Canadian life.

    Clement Virgo

    Clement Virgo was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and moved with his family to Toronto at the age of 11. His directorial credits include the short Save My Lost Nigga Soul (93), which received the Festival's prize for Best Canadian Short Film; the television series The Book of Negroes (15), select episodes of The Wire (02–08); and the feature films Rude (95), The Planet of Junior Brown (97), Love Come Down (00), Lie With Me (05), and Poor Boy's Game (07), all of which have played the Festival.
