Black Star curator Ashley Clark joins us prior to Norman Jewison's Oscar-winning classic to discuss how images of Blackness have been historically constructed and challenged both within and outside the mainstream film industry, and to explore the vibrancy and resilience of Black representation in cinema.

Ashley Clark is the senior programmer of cinema at BAM in Brooklyn. He has curated Black Star programs at London's BFI Southbank and MoMA, and is a regular contributor to publications including Film Comment, Sight & Sound, and The Guardian. Clark’s first book is Facing Blackness: Media and Minstrelsy in Spike Lee’s Bamboozled (15).
