Irish-Canadian co-production Room, the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival’s People's Choice Award winner, has been building momentum as one of the strong award contenders of the year. Find out from the team behind the powerful film on the road to bring this novel to life and how Canada played an important role in its success.
Canadian filmmakers continue to evolve and challenge the status quo of genre filmmaking, expanding the conversation by cleverly blending different visual styles, aesthetics and tropes while paying homage to traditional genre elements - altogether, crafting a uniquely eerie-horrific-humorous-shocking mode of expression that leave audiences wanting more. This panel explores why and how such an approach to filmmaking works and what implications daring expectations have on the creative process.

Producers Lab Toronto
The sixth edition of Producers Lab Toronto was held during the Toronto International Film Festival from September 9–12, 2015. Ten producers each from Europe and Canada join with four participants from Australia and New Zealand at the Festival, to exchange ideas and information on funding and co-production on both sides of the Atlantic and Down Under.
In 2015 the 24 participants took part in pitching sessions, case studies, roundtables and networking events with key people from the film industry and film funds. The aim is to both develop an understanding of international arrangements and to deepen relationships, in order to progress projects with an international scope.
Participants of Producers Lab Toronto 2015 programme had prior co-production experience and high-quality projects in the pipeline which were of interest to the international market. Europeans were selected by EFP from the alumni of their Cannes-based networking platform, Producers On The Move. Canadian producers were selected by OMDC and TIFF from an open call across Canada, while Screen Australia and New Zealand Film Commission each selected two participants from their countries.
Producers Lab Toronto is presented by the OMDC, the Toronto International Film Festival and EFP. The event is supported by the additional partners Screen Australia and New Zealand Film Commission, as well as by Telefilm Canada, Eurimages and associated EFP member organisations.
