A struggling actress (Anna Kendrick) and her novelist lover (Jeremy Jordan) look back on the last half-decade of their relationship from very different viewpoints, in this adaptation of the hit off-Broadway musical from writer-director Richard LaGravenese.

Official Selection, Toronto International Film Festival 2014

Based on the off-Broadway hit by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown, this stellar new addition to the catalogue of "sung-through" musicals from writer-director Richard LaGravenese is uplifting, melancholy and moving in equal measure. Focusing on the five-year relationship between rising novelist Jamie Wellerstein (Jeremy Jordan) and struggling actress Cathy Hyatt (Anna Kendrick), the film tells the tale of this fated romance from two perspectives and two temporal directions: Cathy's side of the story proceeds in reverse order from the end of their marriage, while Jamie's version of events begins with the couple's first meeting. Capturing both the boundless possibilities of young love and the poignancy and pain of its end, bursting with the energy and wit of Brown's clever compositions, and carried along by the charm of its captivating leads, The Last Five Years is "a moving, at times magnificent work ... one of the best musicals in many years" (TwitchFilm).
