We kicked off the 41st Toronto International Film Festival at TIFF Soirée on Wednesday, September 7, where we welcomed acclaimed actor Michael Fassbender as our special guest of honour.

The evening included an exclusive onstage conversation at TIFF Bell Lightbox, followed by a rooftop cocktail party with a beautiful view of the Toronto cityscape.

Proceeds from TIFF Soirée enable TIFF to continually showcase world-renowned film programming and innovative exhibitions, provide enriching workshops and diverse educational initiatives for youth and aspiring filmmakers, and support the community through outreach. Michael Fassbender

Michael Fassbender was born in Germany and raised in Killarney, Ireland. A graduate of London’s prestigious Drama Centre, he had his breakthrough with Band of Brothers (01) and made his big-screen debut with 300 (07). Since then, he has been the recipient of numerous international awards and nominations, including the London Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor in Hunger (08); BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor in Shame (11); Academy Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG, and Independent Spirit nominations for Best Supporting Actor for 12 Years a Slave (13); and most recently, the Best Actor Award from the LA Film Critics Association and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Steve Jobs (15). Fassbender’s upcoming films include Derek Cianfrance’s The Light Between Oceans (16), Justin Kurzel’s Assassin’s Creed (16), Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant (17), and Tomas Alfredson’s The Snowman (17).

Toronto-bred star Kardinal Offishall has criss-crossed the globe, performing in some of the most prestigious stadiums, arenas, and festivals and giving his fans the ultimate high energy, mash-up performance. His unique twist of hip-hop is loved internationally due to his high-energy stage performances and charismatic persona. Kardinal Offishall has been nominated for 15 Juno Awards, and is a four-time MMVA winner.

Pierre Bois

Pierre Bois is a Toronto-based DJ specializing in fundraisers, craft shows, community events, and private parties. Filling the room with the sounds of gleeful nostalgia, each of his performances are crafted entirely from his vinyl collection, which spans seven decades. Clients include TIFF, The Pink Pearl Foundation, One of a Kind Show and Sale, Make It - An Arts & Craft Show, and City of Craft.
