Doc Roundtables return to Doc Corner

Real Shaolin.jpgFor documentary makers registered as delegates with TIFF, the festival offers a special opportunity to network with industry players at Doc Roundtables, taking place 2-4 pm on Sept 7-10 in the Doc Corner section of Match Club. At these informal sessions, filmmakers can meet face-to-face with some of the most savvy distribution strategists in the field. This year?s line-up includes Jan Rofekamp and Diana Holtzberg, whose list of titles at Films Transit includes The Real Shaolin (pictured above right); Ira Deutchman of Emerging Pictures; Clair Aguilar of ITVS; and many more listed below.

If you?re not already registered with an industry badge, the most economical way to take advantage of Doc Roundtables is purchase an Industry Networking Pass for $270. Online registration ends on August 27, but you can also register on site during the festival.

Matt Dentler - Head of Marketing and Programming, Cinetic Rights Management
Matt Dentler is the head of marketing and programming for Cinetic Rights Management, a sister company of Cinetic Media in New York. Prior to this, Matt spent five years as the Producer of the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference & Festival in Austin, TX.  Matt is the executive producer of TRINIDAD.

Sky Sitney- Director of Programming, SILVERDOCS

Sky Sitney is the Director of Programming for SILVERDOCS, based at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD.  Sitney is the Co-Founder and Curator of the on-going series ?Fresh Film? at the Anthology Film Archives in New York City.  She is completing a dissertation on the
subject of documentary film, a section of which has been recently published
in the journal Grey Room, and the book  ?A Lower East Side Film &
Video History?.

Liz Ogilvie - Head of Programming , Docurama Films

Liz Ogilvie is the Head of Programming for Docurama Films®, an independent digital distribution company dedicated exclusively to releasing cutting-edge, critically acclaimed documentary films into the home entertainment market place.  Recent acquisitions include Autism: The Musical, Bomb it, Strange Culture and King Corn. Liz is currently a member of IFP, IDA, New York Women in Film and Television and serves on the board of the New York Film and Video Council.

Dan Satorius - Vice President , Lommen Abdo Law Firm
Dan Satorius is the Vice President of Lommen Abdo Law Firm and Co-Chair of the Entertainment Law Department.  He has produced award-winning films and has practiced entertainment law for over 25 years.   Dan?s practice focuses on transactions, intellectual property, financing, and the representation of businesses and individuals.  His clients include Academy, Emmy, Grammy, and Peabody Award winning independent producers, writers, and broadcasters in the film and television industry.

Founded in 1982 by Jan Rofekamp, Films Transit International is one of the world's leading international distributors of quality feature length and tv hour documentaries. Some of Jan's executive producer credits include; End of the Cerntury: The Story of the Ramones and Imaginary Witness - Hollywood and the Holocaust. Examples of more recent releases include: Shake Hands the the Devil and American Hardcore.

Claire Aguilar - Vice President of Programming , ITVS

Claire Aguilar is the Vice President of Programming for Independent Television Service (ITVS), which funds, promotes and distributes independently produced programming to public television.  Claire commissions programming for ITVS?s International Media Development Fund, and co-curates the Independent Lens Series, a series of independently produced programs on PBS.

Ira Deutchman - President and CEO of Emerging Pictures , Emerging Pictures

Ira Deutchman has been making, marketing and distributing films for thity-one years.  He was a founder of Cinecom and created Fine Line Features.  Currently Deutchman is President and CEO of Emerging Pictures, a New York-based film distribution and digital exhibition company and is an Associate Professor in the Graduate Film Division at Columbia University. Films Ira has worked on include: Sex, Lies and Videotape, To Sleep with Anger and Metropolitan.

Diana Holtzberg -- Vice President , Films Transit International Inc.

Diana Holtzberg is Vice President of Films Transit International,  Inc. a leading worldwide documentary film sales company.  Films Transit represents a roster of highly acclaimed films that have won Emmys, Peabodys, duPonts, BAFTA?s, and Oscar nominations.  Diana is the co-author of a new book about the documentary film ?Still Doing It? to be released in  October 2008.    

Peter Broderick ?President, Paradigm Consulting

Peter Broderick is President of Paradigm Consulting, which helps filmmakers and media companies develop strategies to maximize distribution, audiences, and revenues.  Paradigm Consulting specializes in state-of-the-art distribution techniques?including innovative theatrical service deals, hybrid video strategies and new approaches to global distribution.  In 1999, Broderick founded 'Next Wave Films? and established their ?Agenda 2000?, the world?s first entity devoted to financing digital features.

Lois Vossen -Independent Lens Series Producer & Vice President, ITVS

Lois Vossen is the founding and Emmy Award-winning series producer of Independent Lens on PBS. This past season, Vossen won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Merit in Nonfiction Programming. ITVS programs have won 15 Sundance Film Festival Awards, 8 Peabody Awards, 12 Emmy Awards and were nominated for 6 ?Best Documentary? Academy Awards.

Janet Pierson - Producer , South by Southwest (SXSW)
Janet Pierson, is the Producer of the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival. She has spent over 25 years championing independent films and filmmakers, in a variety of roles including distributor, exhibitor, producer?s rep, investor and executive producer. She is the co-creator and segment director of the IFC cable TV series Split Screen and is also co-president of Grainy Pictures and Vice-President of the Austin Film Society.

Tom Quinn- Magnolia Pictures, Senior VP of Magnolia Pictures & Magnet Releasing
Tom Quinn is currently Senior VP of Magnolia Pictures & Magnet Releasing.  Previously as the VP of Acquisitions for Samuel Goldwyn Jr., Tom was responsible for acquiring such titles as; Raising Victor Vargas and SuperSizeMe .  Some of Tom?s recent acquisitions include: Man on Wire and Bigger Stronger Faster.

Dana O'Keefe- Senior Executive Sales & Finance, Cinetic Media
Dana O'Keefe is a senior executive in the sales, financing, and management divisions of Cinetic Media. During his tenure, the company facilitated the sale and financing of a diverse slate of films including; I'm Not There, We Own the Night and Taxi to the Dark Side. Dana currently works as a talent manager in the company's newly created management division where he oversees the careers of a roster of directors.
